Summer musings...

I'm in a car on my way upstate with my friends Jon, Eric, and Andrew. Tomorrow is Eric's birthday and we are gonna have a biiiig party! Weee!! I figured I would take the time to update my blog! Genius!

So let's see… since last we left our heros:

My pictures have been posted on the 2(x)ist Facebook page 3 times now. Apparently there have been a lot of great comments! 2(x)ist even tweeted at me that I was blowing up their wall like crazy! Can they please give me a job now? You know… one that pays cash monies? That would be fab, thanks. :) I've posted the pics they posted below. Check them out!

Speaking of Twitter… I tweeted about singing Kerrigan and Lowdermilk's "Run Away With Me" and how much that song kicks my ass. Well, I guess K&L have alerts or something (I'm not that advanced a tweeter yet) and they totally tweeted at me! I was at Birdland's Cast Party visiting my fabulous friend Jim Caruso and nearly fell off my stool! I was so excited. You would have thought Lady Gaga had sent me a text. Btw, I love that song. It's gorgeous but let me tell you... it is so difficult to learn! Words, words, words! Josh young and Aaron Tveit have beautiful videos of it on Youtube.com. Check them out. Maybe I should post a video of me singing... hmmm. Would that be weird?

A couple weeks ago I had the most fabulous broadway week. My friend Sergio (spectacular choreographer of Jersey Boys, Next to Normal, Memphis, and Addams Family… and that's just what's currently on broadway!) got me tickets to see both Memphis and Jersey Boys! Plus, I got a TDF ticket to see Next to Normal (4th time). I got to see 3 AMAZING broadway shows in one week! I loved them all. Memphis just blew me away. It's incredible from start to finish. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it wins the Tony for Best Musical on Sunday. (don't get me started on my opinions of the Tony board though.)

I booked a job with Babies'R'Us a couple of weeks ago. It was a great job. 8 hours of walking around a beautiful park on a beautiful day with a beautiful baby…. and getting paid! I had such a great time. I LOVE kids… esp babies. These babies were from seven to ten months old. I had a wife for the day and we had a great time. I can absolutely see myself living in a NYC suburb with a kid or 2 in about 10 years. The town (Montclair, NJ) reminded me a lot of the town I grew up in.

But wait! There's more!

I auditioned for the Provincetown production of Naked Boys Singing. I kind of did it on a lark… I wanted a good story. It was a lot of fun, actually! I sang the last 16 bars of "Bring on the Men" (it seemed apropos). First I sang it clothed and they liked it enough to asked me to sing it again naked…. So I did!!!! Well, guess what: they offered me the part!!! Unfortunately, I had to turn it down because I wouldn't be able to pay my mortgage etc with what they paid. I would like to do it next summer though because by then I will be allowed to sublet my apartment. I told the producer that I would be interested in next year and he said "You are on the top of my list for next year." I think I might learn the show a little bit so that I can pick a couple of parts that I would ideally like to play and find the perfect audition song for that role... you know, like a real actor would. I think it would be so much fun!!! A summer in Provincetown, singing, nude, and getting paid! I like all those things!!!!

I think that's enough for now. Hope you enjoy!

The New Year

This New Year's Eve I decided that my life has not quite been interesting enough and that I'm letting my youth pass me by with a little too much passivity. To remedy this I came up with a few resolutions... non of which involve surgery. Now, it should be noted that I have a very good track record with my NYE resolutions. One of them was to travel more (in an attempt to be more worldly and sophisticated... as opposed to simply aging). So far, so good. I went to Las Vegas for 4 days in the very beginning of the year. While I know that might not be a big deal to some people but I'd never been that far west and knew nothing about Vegas. I had so much fun but... as they say: What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. I'm happy to keep it that way. ;)

Ok, I can tell by your silence that you are not all that impressed. I also took a 10 day trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina... by myself, to live in my own rental apartment, and I don't speak spanish. How's that for an adventure? It was incredible. It was exactly what I wanted it to be: an adventure. It was exhausting and exhilarating. I learned a lot and had so much fun. It inspired me to learn spanish because I think I would have been able to take more advantage of the city if I spoke with more sophistication than a 4-year-old and frantic gesticulation.
Maybe I'll post some pictures later (I'm at work and don't have them with me) but I know what you are gonna say! "Billy, I don't think you actually were there. You're not in any of the pictures." Well, you are half right. I was too afraid to hand my camera to some puerteno and have them run off with it! So the pictures are of buildings and museums... I think I'll spare you the old fashioned slide show. I highly recommend a trip there though.

Since I've gotten back I've mainly been trying to catch up on my hours at the hospital (fail) and get to castings (success!). Castings have been scarce lately because of the... what are we calling it now? "The continuing economic crisis?" Yeah, that... this reception we are in... or whatever.

Oh yeah, I also had a birthday party! It was at ,my favorite bar, barracuda and I had a great time with my great friends. Weeee!

That's all.

Hey!

So, I've decided to come out of my previously unannounced retirement (aka laziness and too much crap to deal with to even be able to think straight... not that I ever did)

Today was crazy. I learned how to twitter even before I got out of bed. Twittering naked is the best FYI! I pretty much suck at twittering... or tweeting... but, get over it and follow me anyway. You never know what inane things I'll come up with. :) After that I ripped out a window sill in my new apt... don't worry... I'm super handy and can fix it. There is a master plan and it's uber butch. ;) Then I bought new shoes and am hanging out with my friend Dave singing show tunes and pre-gaming for "Mostly Sondheim" at the Duplex (aka "Freaky Fridays"). I have a new song to sing and if I don't screw it up I might just post it... just for funsies.
Best of all... in 10 minutes through a cloud of raspberry Cosmo haze Dave was able to get a page up on my website BillySteeves.com. It's just a pop up with a picture and "Under Construction" type of thing.

Ok, we are late for the bar! TAXI!!!
